Akshay Kumar has been a part of many patriotic movies in recent times – be it ‘Airlift’, or ‘Kesari’ and his last film ‘Skyforce’. The actor is also known to do a lot of films with themes that benefit that society or have a strong message towards the betterment of the country. In a recent interview, Akshay reflected on his choice of patriotic movies and revealed that his wife Twinkle Khanna teases him for doing patriotic movies now.
The ‘Khiladi’ actor recently attended an event where he was asked about doing patriotic movies. He said at this event hosted by Republic World, “In fact, my wife teases me, ‘How many times will you save the country?’” He further added, “But let me tell you something, and you will agree with me. We have seen so many Hollywood films where whenever there is any kind of trouble in the world – terror strike, alien invasion, asteroids falling from the sky, whatever might happen, who saves the world? America. So I started thinking that if America does everything, then when will do anything? Don’t we know what India can do? India can do a lot.”
However, Akshay pointed out that some of his movies like ‘Airlift’ and ‘Mission Mangal’ were unique Indian stories. “I know that such films don’t do much business because people want to watch entertainment but let me tell you, I make these film because my heart says so. And I will keep on making these films about my country. The best part is, after the film releases, that is when people start watching it on streaming platforms,” he said.
Meanwhile, Akshay and Twinkle are like chalk and cheese. They are quite different from each other and have always maintained that. He had earlier spoken about their differences in a chat with Galatta India, “Me and my wife are very different. She thinks left, I think right. The only thing which is common in us is that we both like to sleep early and wake up early. Another thing which we like is playing Rummy or Ludo. Nothing else is common. But, its not just about that. Respect is the most important thing. It is important to give each other space. There are 36 traits in people, not necessarily they all have to be common in a couple. But if you have that one trait of respecting each other, I think its equivalent to having all the traits you need in a relationship.”
