In an extraordinary turn of events, Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava has achieved a feat that seemed nearly impossible—surpassing the Hindi collections of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. As per industry tracker Sacnilk, Chhaava added another Rs 5 crore to its total on its 25th day, taking its overall collection to Rs 516.8 crore, edging past Baahubali 2’s ₹510.99 crore Hindi total.
This milestone cements Chhaava as the sixth highest-grossing Hindi film of all time, surpassing one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated blockbusters. While Baahubali 2 remains an industry benchmark with its mammoth Rs 1,788.06 crore worldwide total, Chhaava’s remarkable Hindi box office journey highlights its resonance with audiences.
Directed by Laxman Utekar, Chhaava portrays the life and legacy of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, and has struck a chord with audiences, particularly in Maharashtra. Vicky Kaushal’s powerful performance and the film’s patriotic themes have driven immense footfalls, especially in single screens, where it continues to perform exceptionally well.
The success of Chhaava also marks a significant milestone in Kaushal’s career, firmly establishing him as a bankable star capable of delivering record-breaking numbers at the box office. The film’s grand scale, emotional depth, and rousing action sequences have earned widespread praise, drawing repeat audiences. The film is also expected to get another boost at the box office thanks to the Holi weekend.
With this feat, Chhaava now stands among an elite list of Hindi blockbusters, with Dangal, Animal, KGF Chapter 2 and with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan as its next competition.
Chhaava also featured stellar performances by Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai and Viineet Kumar Singh as Kavi Kalash. Post Chhaava, Vicky will be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt and he also has Amar Kaushik’s Mahavtar lined up.
